Users of Calgary’s first driverless shuttle leery about some hands-off travel

While 95 per cent of respondents to a University of Calgary survey said they liked the jaunt in a 12-passenger electronic autonomous vehicle (known as ELA) between the Calgary Zoo and Telus Spark last September, many weren’t ready to fully trust the mode of travel in normal traffic conditions. The prospect of riding in a driverless shuttle on a freeway — considered by many to be the inevitable future of transportation — was turned down by 41 per cent while another 25 per cent said they’d happily take the trip, with 34 per cent wavering with a maybe response.
