The road to autonomous truck viability begins to clear
When it comes to driving autonomous trucks on the interstate, there are several issues that need to be solved. The lidar arrays used to sense the environment and map a truck’s location are very expensive. And there is the question of how a vehicle gets updated maps. Does it store it in the truck? Or does it download the maps? Both approaches have drawbacks. Finally, lidar and cameras do not work well in all environmental conditions.
