Robo-taxis or high-tech tunnels? The race for traffic utopia

On my first day as a reporter in Silicon Valley, I witnessed what I thought was the greatest product unveiling I had ever seen. It was a sunny morning, late June 2012. From an airship hovering over downtown San Francisco, a team of stuntmen wearing Google Glass headsets started to leap out into the Californian sky.
