In self-driving, Amazon invests while Walmart partners
Amazo AMZN +2.4%n and Walmart WMT -0.1%, two of the largest retailers in the world, each have a presence in the autonomous vehicle industry. Their approaches are different, however. Amazon has purchased equity stakes in several different companies in the space, and is building its own efforts internally. Walmart, by contrast, is focusing on partnerships with multiple self-driving delivery services. Each approach has benefits and costs, and perhaps reflects each company’s competencies and self-conception.
