Four things needed to make robotaxis successful in Los Angeles
Have you heard the exciting, futuristic-transportation news? Robotaxis will soon be “rolling down the street” in Los Angeles. And if you think that you’ll immediately be able to sip on gin and juice with your mind on your money and your money on your mind a la the classic LA native Snoop Doggy Dog’s seminal track because there will be a robot at the wheel, unfortunately, that’s not the case. One, California’s open container laws prohibit open alcohol containers in any vehicles, and two, not all streets will be occupied by robotaxis. Los Angeles is a sprawling spider-like city and a county of 88 separate incorporated cities and more than 65% is comprised of unincorporated territories; because of this, robotaxis will only roam select pockets at first.
