Federal regulators want to know what you think of self-driving cars with no steering wheel
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is asking for comments from interested parties and the general public, whether NHTSA should allow General Motors, and by implication other automakers, to experiment on real roads with autonomous cars that have no steering wheel, no brake pedals, and therefore no ability for a human “safety driver” onboard to intervene if needed, which is how autonomous test cars typically operate today on public roads.
