SMMT: Electrified, driverless vehicle revolution could fuel £66bn annual UK windfall by 2040
The UK could reap the rewards of a £66bn annual windfall before 2040 driven by the widespread adoption of driverless electric vehicles over the next two decades, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). A report today by the auto sector trade association highlights the raft of potential socio-economic benefits for the UK if connected and automated mobility (CAM) technology – from self-driving cars and logistics vehicles, to automated buses, taxis, shuttles and even tractors – is rolled out en masse in the coming decades.
