Money and politics, not technology, stand between us and self-driving cars
Some human aspirations are easy to measure. JFK’s promise to put a man on the moon was simple: transport a human to the Moon where he will take a stroll and return safely to Earth. The challenge was incredibly expensive and technologically difficult, but the goalposts were clear. Billions of dollars have been spent and many advances have been made towards delivering autonomous cars, but when will we know that we have achieved success?
