Intel unit Mobileye’s strategy to win self-driving is very different from Tesla, Waymo and others
MobilEye, an Israeli company which is the pioneer and overwhelming leader in computerized driver-assist systems, has had ambitions in self-driving for many years. Intel INTC +0.7% acquired them for $16B in 2017, but that price was only partly for their business selling computer vision systems to automakers to provide ADAS functions like collision avoidance, lanekeeping and adaptive cruise control. The real driver was the potential in self-driving.
